How to convert a bank statement PDF to Excel

Converting your digital bank statement from a PDF into an editable Microsoft Excel spreadsheet or CSV file takes under a minute. Follow these steps to process records directly in your browser:

Step 1: Choose your input method. Use the Upload PDF Statement tab for a file, or click Paste Statement Text to input copied rows.

Step 2: Add your document. Drag and drop your bank statement PDF into the drop zone, or click to choose the file from your device. If pasting text, copy lines from your net banking history and paste them into the box.

Step 3: Pick your bank preset. Options include Default Auto-Detect, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, and Canara Bank.

Step 4: Review extracted transactions in the preview table. The table displays date, narration, reference ID, debit, credit, and running balance with summary totals. Use the search box to find specific entries.

Step 5: Export your data. Click Download Excel (.xlsx) for a formatted spreadsheet, Download CSV for a plain-text file, or Copy Table Data to paste rows into your spreadsheet software.

What data is extracted

The tool extracts digital text inside your PDF and arranges transactions into six standardized columns:

  • Transaction date: The date when the bank posted the transaction to your account, formatted in DD/MM/YYYY or standard numerical format.
  • Narration: The description provided by the bank, including merchant names, payee details, UPI handles, NEFT or RTGS remarks, and fee notes.
  • Reference number: Unique tracking identifiers such as UPI transaction IDs, IMPS reference numbers, cheque numbers, or bank sequence codes.
  • Debit: Currency amounts withdrawn from your account for outgoing payments, merchant purchases, cash withdrawals, or automated debits.
  • Credit: Currency amounts added to your account from incoming transfers, salary credits, interest payouts, or cash deposits.
  • Running balance: The account balance recorded immediately following each transaction, useful for ledger reconciliation.

Supported banks

This converter includes presets for eight major Indian lenders: HDFC Bank, State Bank of India (SBI), ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB), Bank of Baroda (BoB), and Canara Bank. The Auto-Detect engine also reads digital statements from other scheduled commercial banks.

If your bank uses an unusual layout that does not parse cleanly from the PDF, switch to the Paste Statement Text tab. Log in to your net banking portal, select and copy transaction rows, and paste them into the box. The line parser reads amounts and dates directly from text without relying on PDF columns.

Is it safe to upload a bank statement?

Yes. It is safe because your bank statement is never uploaded to any remote server. The tool runs entirely in your web browser using client-side JavaScript libraries (Mozilla PDF.js and SheetJS).

When you select a PDF, your browser native FileReader reads the file into local memory as a binary array. The text extraction and pattern-matching code run locally on your device processor. No statement bytes, account numbers, names, or balances are transmitted across the internet to our server or any third-party database. Once you close the tab, the memory is cleared. The only internet connection used is loading the initial page files.

Frequently asked questions

No. If your statement requires a password, the browser parser cannot decrypt it. You must remove password protection before uploading. Open the statement in your browser, enter the password, select Print, choose Save as PDF, and upload that unlocked file.
No. The converter extracts text from computer-generated PDFs issued by your bank. Scanned paper copies consist of images rather than text and require OCR software. For scanned pages, copy or type rows into the Paste Statement Text tab.
XLSX is the native Microsoft Excel format that preserves structured columns, numeric formatting, and headers. CSV is a plain-text format where columns are separated by commas, making it ideal for importing into accounting software such as Tally or Zoho Books.
The converter supports HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, and Canara Bank. The Auto-Detect engine also works with digital statements from other scheduled commercial banks.
